Flashback bonus – Written circa 2008…
Information is, and always has been, the purest form of power. During the 20th century, it was pretty much under control of the elites in the managed and contained brick and mortar complex, whether that be described as huge corporations or big government. The glue that kept it all together was managed control of information, spun to suit the agenda of the day.
Enter the internet, still learning to walk, but throwing off information and mis-information on a growth curve that staggers the mortal mind. The Modern Hun, looking for virtual pitchforks, has stumbled on this forge and has eagerly taken up arms en-masse in the form of Blogs, Group Forums, inter-communication and the like, the sheer volume of which keeps it somewhat ahead of the elite radar’s ability to make timely sense of the images.
As a result, The Unwashed Hun will likely re-organize the front end of the 21st century, and actually shift the balance of power to some degree. The current brick and mortar elite have no more grasp of this from their 82nd floor violin pit than the Roman Empire had of the lowly Huns, at first considered a nuisance, not a united force… rather a series of raiding parties with differing aims. If you are reading this, you may be one of the unwashed or maybe an established elite; – at either end of the tow rope, differing only by degree. The end that figures out how best to use the rope to make a working noose will lead the story that 22nd century historians chronicle, as they did with that last post marker, the [Fill in the Blank] Revolution.
Regardless, these days we are, as the bipolar curse would say, living in interesting times.
